I used to wonder why my dad always loved to talk about the past. I wondered that until I got to the point where I had a past to talk about, then it all made sense. It is not necessarily the case that we long for the good ole days but that no matter what the past is, it is a part of us. It helps define us. There are moments you would just assume forget and other moments you want to cling to forever. There are moments that really mean little in the grand scheme of things and others that are very significant.
I remember the first time I accessed the internet. It is a moment in time I will never forget. For those of us in the general public it was like magic. How was this possible? We had received an AOL disk to try the internet out. Actually, it was probably not the first one we received but I just kept putting it off. I will do it tomorrow. Tomorrow will be better. Then one day I tried it and was amazed. It didn't matter that you had to wait for it to dial in or that it took forever for things to come up. It seemed like a miracle. From that point we progressed from dial up to DSL to Fiber. These days I kind of take it for granted but when I reflect I can still remember how I felt that one moment in time.
